Un flotteur est un mécanisme qui flotte dans un liquide. Le flotteur est associé à un point fixe et sa tâche consiste à fournir des données sur le niveau de la surface du liquide par rapport au point fixe. Le flotteur sert à mesurer le niveau de liquide ou à actionner les vannes et les interrupteurs des pompes qui contrôlent le flux de liquide entrant et sortant d'un réservoir.
