Les injecteurs pulvérisent le carburant dans le collecteur d'admission selon un angle très précis. Dans le collecteur d'admission, l'air et le carburant sont mélangés. Un injecteur est un système de canaux et de buses utilisé pour diriger le flux d'un fluide à haute pression de manière à ce qu'un fluide à plus basse pression soit aspiré dans le jet et transporté à travers un canal vers une zone à plus haute pression. Il s'agit d'une pompe à dynamique des fluides qui ne comporte aucune pièce mobile, à l'exception d'une vanne qui contrôle le débit d'entrée.
